Church Lady is Bronzed So She Can Sit In her Church Seat Forever

As a media specialist at an elementary school, I found myself wearing many hats. Not only did I run the school library, but I often ended up babysitting difficult children and difficult parent volunteers from time to time.

Then there was the summer that I transported a carload of kids from my school to a summer camp put on by a nearby church. The church had partnered with our school by providing a week-long summer camp for our students. The problem was that many of our students didn’t have parents who could or would transport their children to the camp.

My son was a student at the school. So I ended driving a couple of his friends and one of my “difficult” kids as well to the camp.

Everything was fine until Sunday morning. There was a special service where the children would sing and share their camp experiences with the congregation. My husband and I picked up all of the children and made our way to the church. Once inside, we sat down on a vacant pew and perused our programs until I realized that someone was standing beside me.

I look up. And there she was, Miss Irate Church Lady. She stood frowning down at my husband and me until I realized she wanted my seat. Or rather, in her eyes, it…
